Backup of important data on your laptop is very important! Don’t wait until there is a problem with your computer
to figure out how to protect your important files. Do it now! After your first backup, I advice backup once a month, or
after you add a critical file to your laptop that you don’t want to lose.
All laptops will be collected at the end of the year and will be reformatted. When juniors pick up there laptop for next
year, it will have a fresh hard drive image. If there is something you want to transfer from 2006-07 to 2007-2008, it must
be backed up on the UAC backup drive.
UAC students need to download a program that will make backups easy! The program is called SilverKeeper. It is a free
program that reads your laptop and matches files from your hard drive to the backup drive. Then each backup after the first,
it only copies new files. This saves tons of time!
SilverKeeper is an application from LaCie that automates backups to external storage devices like hard drives, and other
removable storage devices that have IDE, ATA/ATAPI, SCSI, USB, or FireWire interfaces. Essentially any read/write device that
can mount a writeable volume on the Macintosh Desktop can be used with SilverKeeper.
SilverKeeper can be downloaded from:
1 - cs.uaschools.org, from download this folder
2 - hs2.uaschools.org, from download this folder
3 - link at bottom of this page to internet connection for download.
All laptops need to have this program installed. Tech Committee members are available to help you if you need assistance.
